Performance Tuning

Very frequently, performance is not considered until its consequences affect the final user, with the subsequent negative impact on the image of the company. Besides, this leaves us with less time to react and solve the problem. This is what we call reactive maintenance.

Alternatively, we can provide DB proactive maintenace so that neither the users nor the business are negatively affected. This requires DB continuous monitorization, as well as an informed analysis of the results yielded by the database.

From version 10g onwards, Oracle DBs facilitate monitoring performance tasks, thanks to the possibility of consulting last days performance statistics. Thus, DBAs can extrapolate these results in order to anticipate further performance problems.

However, the market demands constant, specialized performance evaluation projects. In big companies, these can be done within a third-level service giving support to the company’s own DBAs.
